FAQ
Asked, answered.
Straight answers about setup, payments, stock, your team, and your data. If your question isn't here, ask us — during the beta you're talking to the builders.
01
Getting started
- What do I need to run Kadai?
- A tablet, laptop, or desktop with a browser, and an internet connection. There is no app to install and no special hardware to buy.
- How long does setup take?
- Most shops are selling the same afternoon. Sign up, name your shop, add products (name, price, stock), and open the POS. Five minutes for the basics; the rest of the catalog can follow between customers.
- Do my staff need their own accounts?
- Yes — and that is a feature. You invite each staff member by email; they get POS access under their own name, and you see per-staff sales on the dashboard. No shared passwords.
- Can I use it on my phone?
- The POS is tablet-first and works best on a screen with room for the product grid. It runs in a phone browser in a pinch, but the counter experience is designed for tablets and laptops.
02
Selling & payments
- Which payment methods can I record?
- Cash, UPI, card, and bank transfer — including splitting one order across methods. Kadai records what was collected; it does not process the payment itself, so your UPI QR and card machine keep working exactly as they do now.
- How does udhaar (dues) work?
- Take a partial payment — or none — and complete the order. The unpaid balance stays on the ticket as a due, shows up on your dashboard, and can be settled later with any payment method.
- What happens if the internet drops mid-rush?
- You keep billing. Open drafts live on your device first and sync to the server in the background, so a flaky connection delays the backup, not the queue. If a device dies, you can recover the draft from the server backup.
- Can I give discounts?
- Yes — percent or flat discounts on the ticket, plus coupon codes with validity windows, usage limits, and minimum-order rules. Discounts are capped so they can never exceed the order total.
- Does Kadai print receipts and GST invoices?
- Yes. Receipts are formatted for counter printers, and GST tax invoices come with sequential numbering, CGST/SGST split, and the amount in words in Indian numbering.
03
Stock & catalog
- How does stock tracking work?
- Each product has a stock count. Completing a sale decrements it; cancelling restores it. When stock runs low you see a warning, and when it hits zero the POS blocks overselling.
- Can I organize products into categories?
- Yes — categories with a display order you control, plus product images, so the POS grid mirrors how your counter actually thinks.
- Does Kadai handle GST rates per product?
- Each product carries its own tax percent. Invoices split the total tax into CGST and SGST automatically.
04
Team & roles
- What can staff see and do?
- Staff can run the POS: create orders, take payments, print receipts. The dashboard, product catalog, coupons, and settings are owner-only.
- What happens when someone leaves?
- Remove them from the team and their access ends immediately. Their past sales stay on the record, attributed to them.
- Can one person own multiple shops?
- Each shop is its own workspace with its own catalog, team, and orders. You can create more than one, but data never mixes between them.
05
Your data
- Is my sales data private?
- Yes. Every shop is isolated — your catalog, orders, and numbers are visible only to your owner account and the staff you invite. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
- Do you sell my data or my customers’ data?
- No. We are building a POS business, not an advertising business.
- What happens to my records over time?
- Orders, receipts, and invoices are kept — your history is the point. Significant actions are logged, so the record you show your accountant holds up.
06
The beta
- What does "beta" mean here?
- The POS is live and shops run on it daily. "Beta" means we ship improvements frequently and the product is free while we do. It does not mean your data is disposable.
- Does Kadai do online ordering?
- Not yet. The beta is deliberately POS-only — we would rather finish the counter properly than ship six half-features. Anything marked "Coming Soon" in the product is exactly that.
- How do I get help or report a problem?
- During the beta you talk to the people who build Kadai, not a ticket queue. Reach us from your dashboard and you will get a human.
